E is for Easter Week
Last year, I held our family’s Easter gathering at my house
in our back yard. It was a little bit
chilly, so everyone sat in their lawn chairs with jackets on. The picnic tables were spread with tons of
food brought by each family.
After the meal, the family settled in for a rousing game of
whiffle ball. The plastic bat and ball
cracked regularly, and players ran around the makeshift bases whooping and
hollering and generally having a great time.
It was a fun afternoon.
Afterward I was exhausted.
It was the first time I had been able to play hostess in probably 20
years. I was so delighted that it all
turned out well.
This year, I hope to replay last year’s holiday. I’ve been busy organizing my house and
downsizing from a three bedroom house to a one bedroom house so small it has no
room for dressers in the bedrooms.
Changing seasons has kept me guessing what to leave
upstairs, and what to put down in the basement in plastic totes. Today, for example, the temperature is only
52 degrees. Quite a change from the 70s
and 80s we’ve been enjoying last week.
I will be baking my ham on Saturday, and also making cakes,
coloring Easter eggs and all the fixings of “Easter.” But first, I have several days of other
duties to get through before I can even think about Sunday.
Last night, I had orders to take all food and water away
from my dogs, because they are scheduled for neutering surgery this
morning. I must have them in Clay
Center by 8 a.m. today. I’m
praying that the bronchitis I’ve been fighting all day will let up enough so I
can do the running around I must do. I
feel a little better right now, and have been resting most of the day. My coughing spells have let up a little bit,
but when I start to cough, I feel absolutely miserable. My head hurts, my joints hurt, and I can
hardly stay awake. Fun, fun.
I won’t postpone this surgery for my dogs though, because I
finally have everything arranged,
including the funds to get it done. I
hate it when the dogs come into season and leave bloody messes all over the
furniture and my clothing. I hate having
to keep them inside for a whole month because all the male dogs in the
neighborhood are running loose. Not to
mention the worries about having a litter of puppies to find homes for.
I am scheduled to work on Friday, then I have a three day
weekend off. I have already been asked
to work on Saturday, but I turned that opportunity down. If I didn’t have company coming Sunday, I
might have agreed to work. But Saturday
will be a frenzy of activity around here.
I hope everyone has an absolutely wonderful and happy Easter
weekend. Remember the Reason for the
Season and attend the Church of your Choice this weekend.
Happy Easter.
